Meet Liz Merrill, owner of Open Space Mediation
Hi, I'm Liz. I Get It.
I went through my own divorce, and even though I thought of myself as someone who could handle hard things – I had two degrees, a legal team, and am generally a capable person – I still felt totally overwhelmed, confused, and scared.
Mediation felt like checking a box. We spent a full day and walked away with almost nothing resolved. I kept thinking: there has to be a more human way to do this.
So I built it.
I’ve since guided hundreds of Colorado couples through divorce without a courtroom. I also work with individuals through divorce coaching and mediation prep, for people who need support navigating the process on their own terms before they’re ready to sit across the table. Whether you’re just starting to figure out what this looks like or you’re ready to move forward, there’s a place to start.

What Working With Me is Like
I’m not an attorney, and I don’t take sides. My job is to keep both of you informed, keep the process moving, and make sure nothing important gets missed or misunderstood before you sign anything.
I bring what I’d call structured calm to a process that can feel anything but. I know when to slow things down and when to push. I know how to hold space for two people who are grieving while still getting real work done.
When we get on a free call, I’m not there to sell you anything. I want to figure out whether mediation is genuinely the right fit for your situation because if it isn’t, the process will be hard for both of us. But if I think it can work, I’ll tell you that too.
No pressure. No pitch. Just clarity.
